Maria Canals Competition

INTERNATIONAL INITIATIVE THAT SUPPORTS YOUNG PERFORMERS WHO WANT TO DEDICATE THEMSELVES PROFESSIONALLY TO PLAYING MUSIC.

The Maria Canals International Music Competition association is a non-profit organization declared of public interest whose main purpose is to help young performers from all over the world who want to dedicate themselves professionally to music. This support is channeled through the Maria Canals International Music Competition in Barcelona (MCB), which has been held every year since 1954.

Currently, the competition takes place in March, with the arrival of spring, when for a fortnight Barcelona is transformed into the world capital of the piano.  


OBJECTIVES

The main purpose is to organize the yearly competition. The auditions are held in the prestigious concert hall of the Palau de la Música Catalana, where the contest has its headquarters.

More than €80,000 are distributed among the winners in prize money, along with the special awards and concerts in prestigious venues, including the Palau de la Música Catalana. Altogether, a total of 25 recitals and concerts, most of which are made possible thanks to the Jesús Serra Foundation and the support of Yamaha.

The Maria Canals Competition in Barcelona helps young pianists to gain international recognition and, at the same time, it affords the general public universal access to the piano.

SOCIAL INTEGRATION
The association strives to break down the social and cultural barriers that have traditionally hindered access to playing music, especially in the field of classical music and the piano.
