Friends of the Prado Museum Foundation

THE KEY ORGANIZATION IN FOSTERING A CLOSER RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOCIETY AND THE PRADO MUSEUM.

The Friends of the Prado Museum Foundation is a private non-profit cultural institution, created in 1980 on the initiative of a group of founders, who, in connection with the historian Enrique Lafuente Ferrari, contributed the initial capital necessary to set up the project.

The institution plays a dual role, on the one hand connecting with the activities of the Prado Museum, and on the other incorporating new committed collaborators.

OBJECTIVES

The Foundation aims to foster a closer relationship between society and the Prado Museum, encouraging the participation of new Friends, both private individuals and also institutions and companies, whose donations contribute to this group patronage initiative.

The Foundation is dedicated to the promotion, support and development of cultural and educational actions related to the Museum, expanding its collections, its reputation, domestically and internationally and, above all, its integration into society.

COMMITMENT

The Foundation is dedicated to disseminating the Museum’s artistic heritage. One of the most important lines of action is the donation of art works, which enrich the museum’s catalogue. Also significant are the numerous sponsorships that facilitate various initiatives, from cultural exhibitions to educational programs.

As recognition of its dedication, the Foundation has been awarded the Gold Medal in Merit in the Fine Arts from the Spanish Ministry of Culture (1996) and the Medal of Honor from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando (2003).
